When most people think of the state of California, they think of high real estate prices. Although there are parts of California where real estate prices have come to rival those in the better parts of New York, there are still bargains to be found in California real estate for those who are willing to do the research.
The highest real estate prices in California are in the southern beach towns, where property is at a premium. In Southern California, however, the farther you live from the beach, the less you will pay for a home or property. This doesn’t mean that you have to live so far away from the ocean that it would take a day trip to get there, however. Simply living one town east of a beach town can mean drastically lower real estate prices; but you can still be close enough to be able to get to the ocean in twenty minutes. Condo living is also much more affordable in Southern California than buying a regular home. For one half to three quarters of what you would pay for a home with a front and back yard near the beach, you could live comfortably in a condominium or townhouse in the same area.
There are many areas of California where real estate is still quite reasonably priced. Homes such as those found in the outskirts of Kern County, California can be affordable, as long as you don’t mind living far away from the nearest populated urban area. Small towns such as Wofford Heights in Kern County are beautiful places to live, with mountains, lakes, and rivers nearby, but their remote locations still make them great bargains. For some, living far from the noisy city is a plus.
